Creator Diary

Today was a good day. I woke up and had a pretty good breakfast before running out to the new office in my favorite part of Seattle–Ballard. I checked in on the progress of the micro studio, which is coming along nicely, and as soon as the wallpaper and lighting is up, we should be ready to start shooting our–

Wait, what am I doing? We have guests! It would be rude if I didn't explain exactly what's going on here...

Hello there! A lot has happened to Monocle Society since the last time we talked, and since there's so much more that's happening, we at Monocle decided to do something a bit different, where you can hear everything that's going on in the office and inside of the Weave community.

This is a diary for every developer, designer, writer, storyteller, and artist inside of Monocle Society, and also for our creator friends who are helping create a brand new vision of storytelling inside of our hallowed halls. Inside of these diary entries you will find an inside look at the things we're working on, why we do things the way we do, and the intention behind our designs.

We're serious when we say that we're going to share with you our process too. Think of it as us showing everyone how the sausage is made inside of a game studio, especially one that's doing something which hasn't been done before. Sketching every idea out, planning every piece of technical architecture that will come together to bring our ideas closer to fruition.

I wouldn't read too much into this.
Inside of Monocle Society there is a shared notebook that we use to write down every crazy idea and every piece of innovation we can think of.

When you look at a game studio from the outside, it can be difficult to understand how much is going on everyday and how much time and dedication it takes to make something from nothing. Inside of a studio, it's not much easier... unless you have a way to capture it all for safekeeping.

You may see scribbles that show up in our diary entries. These weren't made because of the entries, rather it's the other way around. Inside of Monocle Society, there is a shared notebook that we use to write down every crazy idea and every piece of innovation that we can think of. With all the possibilities in our work here, it's the best way to channel our combined stream of consciousness into a plan that will keep us moving forward for years to come.

Since the beginning, our mission has been to fuse technology with traditions in the tabletop world to bring brand new experiences to the table and make it easy for anyone to play the types of games we all love. While others have made companion apps, very few have treated technology as a first-class citizen while designing tabletop games. Technology is an incredible path for us to explore, but that path forward is largely untamed. If we're going to do this, we need to include everyone in this story.

That's where you come in. We want to share this all with you, but we also want to hear from you. We want you to share your opinions. We want you to join in the conversation of what hybrids can do for our community and for the industry as a whole.

If you have something you want to write about in our diary, reach out to us, and let us know what's on your mind–we'll see if we can save a page for you to write in.

Keep checking in, because we're only getting started.
